Why is an SEO compliant website important?

This post has one comment.

First of all, let me define what a compliant website means, it means that your website follows all the rules set forth by the W3C, which stands for the “World Wide Web Consortium”. The rules is to set a way for webmasters to make the compliant site more efficient on the web, which helps the user have an easier time with the website. Following the W3C rules is not enough to be SEO compliant, you will also need to pay close attention to the wording of your website and make it easy for the reader to understand , allowing your site to be valuable to users.

Taking the time to make your site SEO compliant will also help you follow the rules of the search engines you are aiming to get ranking from. As we all know, the higher the rankings; the higher the changes of your site being found are, which in return will increase your brand awareness. You will also need to pay close attention to how you create the information you want your clients to have, the way you write will help you to get rank from the search engines and maintain that ranking.

So why is it important to be SEO compliant?

When your site is SEO complaint, you will find that more people enjoy hanging out at your site because it is easier to use, when a website is not as easy to navigate through, we all know we are quick to look for another website that is less complicated to use. At the end of the day, easier to use website means you will gain more page rank from search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Bing and MSN. These will help increase your traffic, because not only are you recognized but SEO compliant also makes you more users friendly.

Follow up Notes (As of September 17th 2010)

I’m writing some follow up notes to satisfy one of our readers (Poker Spielen, this goes to all at your request).  To give you more specifics about SEO compliance and user friendliness on websites, here are some notes that will point you in the right direction.

Navigation: We need to keep our readers navigating around our Website, and this requires putting a little extra effort in planning the Website’s navigation structure. Depending on how big your site is, you may have to work harder at organizing your content in a way that not only makes sense to the user, but also to the Search engines. Any single level navigation poses little problems and are usually straight forward. You either add the links horizontally across the top, or have a left column navigation (the first being the most recommended one as people automatically look for items across from left to right). For multi-level navigation, certain rules apply, such as categorization –> Make sure the items under a specific category are semantically and contextually related to that category. Google now has algorithms that help create a relationship between hub pages and their sub items, this helps improve ranking and visibility from the “internal linking” standpoint. You also need to use the least levels possible as the deeper your structure is, the harder for the Search engines to crawl. This also applies to the way users read (deep multi-level navigation can get confusing)

Images: Did you know your website can be found through your images? When people do a search for Image results, the images that appear on the list are related to the search that they performed, when people click on that image, then it takes them to the source site. But this doesn’t just “happen”, in order to help your Website’s images be categorized, they need to have the html <ALT=”"> attribute of the <image> tag altered to include a related keyword that represents the topic and the image. It works something like this <image src=”….” Alt=”How to make a garden in your backyard” />. The preceding code helps search engines categorize your images appropriately. This also works for accessibility, in case images are not able to display and for blind people using voice software.

Links: All your links on the pages need to be related to the context where they link to. This also improves SEO linking power. Links on your website must have related “Anchor Text” that can visually and contextually indicate and relate to the destination content. Also applying “Title” attribute values similarly to how the images ALT tags are done, can help both Search Engines and Users (especially the blind) navigate in a friendlier way.

These are just three small things that can be done to make your website an SEO compliant one. I hope this helps (Poker Spielen and all)
